Traffic Safety in Mukachevo
What a driver needs to know:
- Cobblestones: Old cobblestones have been preserved in the city center and on the ascent to the castle. In the rain, it is very slippery.
- Cyclists: Mukachevo is a city of bicycles. There are many of them here, and they are full-fledged participants in the traffic. Be careful when maneuvering.
- Horse-Drawn Transport: At the exits from the city and in the villages of the district, you can still meet carts with horses. Be careful in the dark.
- Alcohol: Zero tolerance. Police often run checks, especially on weekends.

- Near Palanok Castle there is paid parking for visitors. In Mukachevo center (Peace Square, Dukhnovycha St), parking is limited — pay via terminals. Near railway station, free spots are limited, paid parking available.
- Car delivery to railway station, city center, hotels and Palanok Castle — free within Mukachevo. Delivery to Uzhhorod (40 km) and mountain resorts arranged separately. Delivery time from 20-30 minutes.
- Standard limit is 250-300 km/day. For trips to Synevyr (60 km), Kolochava (80 km), Rakhiv (120 km), Bukovel (180 km) and mountain routes, we recommend Unlimited rate. SUV or crossover better for mountains.
- Basic MTPL covers third-party damage. For Transcarpathian mountain roads (serpentines, challenging conditions), we strongly recommend 'Premium' package — full coverage for tires, glass, mirrors, car underbody and suspension.
- Deposit for SUV/crossovers — from $500-600 (increased due to mountain conditions). Economy class — from $200, business — from $400. 'Premium' package reduces deposit to $300-400. SUVs are most popular for mountain routes.
- Yes, for local Mukachevo trips (no mountains) with 'Premium' package, deposit is minimal ($200-250) or waived for economy class. For mountain routes, deposit is mandatory due to increased risks.
